Learning to Trust the Work

The Work Happens Before the Results
As athletes, we naturally want to see results. We want the improved shot, the stronger performance, the bigger opportunity. But meaningful progress rarely happens all at once. Most of the time, it comes from doing the small things consistently, even when nobody is watching.
Show Up When It Gets Hard
There are days when training feels difficult and the results don’t seem to match the effort. Those are the moments when discipline matters most. Showing up on the good days is easy. Continuing to work when things aren’t going your way is what builds real confidence.
Trust the Process
Every workout, every missed shot, every game, and every lesson adds something to the journey. Not every step will feel significant, but over time those moments start to build something bigger.
Trusting the process means understanding that growth takes time—and staying committed even when the finish line isn’t visible yet.
Focus on What You Can Control
You can’t control every outcome, every opponent, or every opportunity that comes your way. What you can control is your preparation, your attitude, your effort, and how you respond when things don’t go according to plan. That mindset has helped me approach basketball with more patience and confidence.
Getting better doesn’t always mean making a huge jump. Sometimes it means shooting one extra hundred shots, making one better decision, recovering properly, or understanding something on film that you missed before.
Those small improvements may not feel important today, but they become impossible to ignore when you look to the back.
